We were all dreaming about being able to hop into a huge AT-AT and driving it into battle and completely dominating and demolishing the enemy, but it appears some of that may have changed. According to one of the lead developers who posted on Reddit, the Battlefront AT-AT’s will actually be on rails and part of the map, like a train would be in some of the Battlefield 4 maps.
Battlefront AT-AT’s On Rails
I guess it would be an issue to drive, or even maneuver them, due to their size and that is something that needs to be worked out still by Dice. These things move so slow, and would take forever to turn around, that they would simply be sitting ducks waiting for the enemy to destroy them. That does not sound like much fun in my opinion.
What is the point of driving them, or bring them into battle, when they are destroyed the moment you get anywhere close to the enemy? While I would have loved to control one on the battlefield, it makes sense why they opted to put these on rails. I honestly don’t think the decision to have them on rails changes the game much, and in fact, will just make it less frustrating for players.
We have to remember that this is a reboot and there are things that could be worked out over the next couple of releases. While it looks like we wont be driving the AT-AT’s in this first Battlefront reboot, there is always Battlefront 2, 3, and maybe even Star Wars: Battlefront 4.
If you have played Battlefield 4, then you have probably been in an AC-130 gunship. This would be just like that in my opinion, you will be able to ride, shoot, and rain down terror on the enemy like you would in a fully packed AC-130 gunship. If you haven’t played it, then the video below will show you how the AC-130 works when it has been deployed on the battlefield, or during the game.
Once you watch that you will see how the Battlefront AT-AT’s on rails, or part of the map, really does not take anything away from the reboot and will probably make it more fun, and less frustrating.

I don’t think this takes away from the game at all, I don’t mind it.
