Star Wars Battlefront takes the runner up spot in the UK charts when looking at Christmas sales to Activision’s COD Black Ops III. Star Wars Battlefront, the rebooted video game by Electronic Arts and Dice, was unable to unseat the champion of Christmas sales despite getting a last minute push from The Force Awakens.
Star Wars Battlefront did take number one when looking at straight Playstation 4 sales, but it fell to number two when taking all formats into consideration. The top 3 games for shoppers in the UK really came down to Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Star Wars Battlefront, and FIFA 16. These titles had some distance on the rest of the competition for the number one Christmas game.
UK Charts – Sales ending 12/19/2015
- Call of Duty: Black Ops III
- Star Wars Battlefront
- FIFA 16
- Fallout 4
- Minecraft: Story Mode
- Assassin’s Creed Syndicate
- Just Cause 3
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege
- Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection
So what does this mean? Well considering that Star Wars Battlefront is only for newer generation consoles and PC, the fact it came in second is really quite big that I think many people will overlook. Battlefront is only for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, while Call of Duty: Black Ops III can be played on those consoles including Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
If Star Wars Battlefront was available on the same consoles as Call of Duty: Black Ops III, then the UK Charts for Christmas sales might look a little different. So while Battlefront couldn’t take the top spot in the UK, there is plenty to think about when considering the consoles they can be played on.
